Job Duties for Food and beverage servers

• Greet patrons, present menus, make recommendations and answer questions regarding food and beverages
• Take orders and relay to kitchen and bar staff
• Recommend wines that complement patrons' meals
• Serve food and beverages
• Prepare and serve specialty foods at patrons' tables
• Present bill to patrons and accept payment
• May order and maintain inventory of wines and wine glassware
• May perform sensory evaluation of wines.

Working Conditions for Food and beverage servers

Work is performed in variety of settings where food and drink are served, from indoor high-end restaurants to bar patios. Some workers may serve for large special events, such as weddings. With long periods of standing and walking necessary, workers often wear comfortable footwear with their uniforms. Careful pacing is needed in order to prevent injury; collisions with customers or other servers sometimes occur. Workers may also find themselves diffusing situations with hostile customers.
